Report of the Prempeh.org 10th Anniversary Fun Fair
Monday, December 11, 2006
The 9th of December, 2006 will forever be enshrined in the minds of people
of Oseikrom and in particular, the current students at the Sofoline
University. The day promised to be a great one as preparation towards the
10th anniversary celebration of the website got underway with news and advertisements on
various radio stations in Kumasi.
A day to be cherished
The programme drew a lot of interest from
students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as Focus
FM made continuous adevertisements on their network. It was time for the
celebration of the life of www.prempeh.org - Ghana's Best Collegiate website.
The world is truly a global village. The advent of information technology
and its high publicity has in fact improved the living standards of people
in the world. It must be acknowledged that the fastest link to sending and
receiving information is the internet.
This year, Prempeh.org was awarded the best collegiate website in Ghana.
This merit is under the accreditation of the Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in Information Technology
in Ghana. This means that prempeh.org is the most publicized and well
resourced collegiate website in Ghana.
As part of activities to mark the celebration of the website's 10th
anniversary and its achievements, an educational/fun fair was organized on
9th December, 2006 at the college. The fair was under the sole sponsorship
of Prempeh.org, as has been many Prempeh College programs.
The drama club teamed up with the Ashanti SRC, which
included some awesome ladies, on the stage
The objectives of the fair was to:
educate the students on the importance of ICT,
educate the students on university admission tips, and
entertain the students through variety show programs and games.
But the fair was to do more than the above stated facts. As early as 8am,
majority of the students had gathered at the forecourt of the college to
witnesss what was about to happen on campus. The headmaster, Mr. Owusu-Achiaw
who has been ill for some time now was there to see things for himself. He
was really enthused about the way things were arranged in an apple pie. The
sounds that blasted from the speakers at the Fore Court could tell what was
about to happen. The weather was very cold which served as an advantage as
the boys were determined to warm their bodies.
There was not going to be any inspection as the prefects who had supervised
the inspection ever since the NAGRAT strike action could all be found inside
the Osae Assembly hall. It was going to be a day that everyone would relish.
The arrival of some sister schools on the campus was a sign of a great day.
The gentlemen became happy when some few students of Yaa Asantewaa Secondary
school got to campus. These beauties made their way to the Assembly hall.
The programme took off with a prayer by the college chaplain.
There was an impeccable seminar on the theme, "Requirements for entry into the
universities" by Messrs Desmond Amankwaah, a final year student of the Kwame
Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and John Acquaye, an examiner
with the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC). It was really welcome by the
students who learnt a lot from the seminar.
We also made a 40-minute projector presentation on prempeh.org
which is a household name on the campus of the college. Prempeh IT master Akoto came around and talked about browsing.
A fierce Playstation II competition. Barcelona vs. Real Madrid on one screen
The next session of the educational fair was done by the Ghna Book Trust.
The society explained to the students the relevance of one having his own
library for the purposes of research and study. Many books were also on
display and sold at reduced prices to the students.
The students all moved out to the forecourt after the lectures to have a
feel of the games that had been showcased under the canopies. While some
played ludo, others played draft and a few tampered with the scrabble, a
game that majority of the students knew nothing about. The Play station 2
games had a lot of people crowding around it. The Senior Prefect, Francis
Ainoo and Rockson, the Ashanti Regional SRC vIce President were the first to
play the new edition of Pro Evoultion soccer 6. But those two seniors were reluctant get off their seats for others to
have an opportunity.
There was acompetition between a student of Kumasi High and Prempeh College
on the draft which the High school boy won and was awarded with a college
tie. An Owarean by name Smoke also competed with Sly of Ramseyer house on
the scrabble to see the guy that has mastered the Queen's language the best. This was a competition that Mother prempeh couldn't
afford to lose. An Owarean to defeat us in English Language on our own soil? What would the ladies think of us?
Spectators were sweating profusely because of the confidence of the OWASS boy, who appeared unencumbered by the strong "home" opposition.
Sly won the contest and was lifted shoulder-high. There was so much fun
that some of the boys wished the day never came to an end.
Prempeh won the scrabble; we needed to. A confident-looking Owarean
wanted to send a message to Santasi that he has conquered Sofoline. But thanks to Sly, he failed.
The arrival of Kwabena Kwabena on the campus of Prempeh College had everyone
trooping to the Assembly hall. The Master of Ceremony for the day was
Livingston, a form three Opoku Ware house student whose eloquency has made
him the MC for various programmes in Kumasi held by schools.
He announced the arrival of the artistes and the programme was underway with
performances from X-bone, Gobe, Daskota and the drama club led by Richard
who put up a splendid performance. These performances drew a lot of people
around including masters who also wanted to catch the fun. The masters were seen throughout the program dancing at the "gallery" as their students
gave them "fans."
Students from
various schools also joined the boys to celebrate the 10th anniversary of
the website and also entertain themselves after a term that has been marred
by strike actions.
Dakosta and Gobe had a one-on-one dance competition that made everyone in
the assembly hall cachinnate for minutes as both wanted to "do each other
in" and win the favour of the girls around.
The Drama club using the song,
"I believe I can fly" by Robert Kellly gave a nice piece of choreography.
They also had a performance this time around with the SRC literary club.
The display proved why the Drama Club is second to none in the Ashanti
Region.
Kwabena Kwabena then mounted the stage with his dancers and put up a
splendid show. His silky voice was once again evident on the day. He moved
the whole place and was given an ovation as some of the boys lifted chairs
into the air to demonstrate their joy. No wonder he is adjudged one of the
best in the country. Even though his show was nearly marred by some power
outage, the professional singer was excellent on the day. He performed for President Kufuor on his birthday the day before and then flew to
Kumasi to perform at the President's alma mater as well.
Okyeame Quami and the Bradez
The Rap Doctor aka Okyeame Quami mounted the stage to the amusement of
all present. He portrayed why he is known as the Rap doctor in Ghana. He
healed the disease and sicknesses of bordeom and fatigue of the students
with his melodious voice and great music.
Quami proved why he has been in show business for years now and still keeps
improving just like prempeh.org. He was later joined on the stage by his
brothers Stone and Kunta Kinte....
