First Annual Prempeh.Org Visual Arts Competition 2006

Organized by www.prempeh.org

Ghana’s Best Website for Schools 2006 (AITI-KACE Web Awards)

As part of the 10th Anniversary of Ghana’s First Collegiate Website

Boys are being invited to participate in the search for the 3 most creative and artistic students of Prempeh College for the 2006/07 academic year – one winner each from Forms 1, 2 & 3.

OBJECTIVES

  • to encourage young people to aspire to high standards of academic scholarship and creativity
  • to be able to obtain enough creative student material intended for filling a new Art Museum being set up on campus by prempeh.org
  • to promote honour and respectability among students

FORMAT

The competition comprises of painting, drawing and printmaking, sculpture, pottery, stage design and photography.

DETAILS

Printmaking:
Contestants may design any local (traditional) or foreign fabric of their choice. The goal of the competition is to show talent and skill.

Photography:
Contestants may create a portfolio that shows their skill in photography. The type of photos to be taken must be either of people or places, including works that depicts the sublime aspects of Mother Nature: vegetations, trees, windows, lakes, campus sites and natural parks could be filmed with the camera.

Stage Design:
One may devise a plan or design for the stage of the Osae Assembly Hall or the new Asssembly Hall under construction. Decorations for the stage of these halls or even the dining hall’s high table will be fantastic, if elegantly and excellently designed.

Sculpture:
Designing a portrait or bust (statute) of a favourite teacher at Sofoline or creating a sculpture that depicts major school events or newsmakers on campus.

Pottery:
Very self-explanatory. One may use clay or any other material to design some traditional Ghanaian pottery.

Art:
Draw anything of your choosing. Anything at all. You may draw “the typical Yaa Asantewaa girl” (very attractive and gorgeous). What about an imaginary island called Santasi? Can you depict how the inhabitants of such an island live? Can you depict their behaviour in your drawing? What kind of haircut do they wear? What about an imaginary island called Tanoso, where the angelic inhabitants are so adorable? You may also draw anything about school life: our teachers, your class, the dorms, current campus events or even national and international events.

Submission Deadline

To be Announced. The work will be available for visitors to the school on Speech day. That means it will form a part of the Speech Day exhibition. Your parents and your girlfriends will get to see your work on display. Moreover, they may get to se you receive a big cash award on national television.

For example, if a student needs clay or fabric to desgin some work, such material could be obtained from town if not available within the Prempeh Art Department.

A Museum of Visual Arts will open on campus in the very near future which will feature the work of the winners of the competiton along with 10 outstanding works to be selected.

Conclusion

3 winners (one each from forms 1, 2 and 3) will be chosen. In addition, 10 other outstanding works will be selected for inclusion in the Museum display. Creators of the other 10 works will receive various awards.
